09/10/2011 London UK. Over 2,000 people held a sit down protest against the government's NHS reforms on Westminster bridge in London. On the eve a critical House of Lords vote on the Health and Social Care Bill it was a last ditch attempt by those demonstrating to fight the reforms. At the stroke of 1 o'clock protesters sat down on the bridge as activists wielding banners blocked the bridge in both directions. The location of Westminster bridge is significant, as it runs between the Houses of Parliament to the north and St Thomas's hospital on the south bank of the Thames. Police were present in large numbers.
